Confidentiality of Library Records Policy
It is the policy of this library to protect the privacy of those who use its services.
The library shall not disclose any library record that identifies a person as having requested or obtained specific materials, information, or services, or as otherwise having used the library. Library records may be disclosed in the following instances:
- When necessary for the reasonable operation of the library.
- The library account holder may authorize another person (designated representative) to access their records by providing written consent to the library. The designated representative must present a government-issued photo ID to verify their identity when accessing the account holder's records.
- Parents, legal custodians, or guardians with a valid government-issued photo ID may have access to the circulation records of their minor child (under 18) or of a legally incompetent adult.
- In accordance with a properly issued subpoena, search warrant, or other order of a court of competent jurisdiction or where otherwise required by law (NCGS 125-19).
